Up until 2005 most resellers simply sold an ISPs branded broadband in return for a once-off commission. It soon became apparent that they were letting competitors into their customer bases and actually broadband could be a lucrative recurring revenue stream for them.

Griffin was one of the UK's first ISPs and launched its free vISP in 1998. Soon after broadband was launched in 1999 Griffin developed a white label managed broadband product for BT Wholesale and adapted this for the channel in 2005.

Comms Business magazine emailed a survey commissioned by Swan Independent Research to measure the brand awareness of ISPs in the channel. 12,962 Resellers were sent the survey and 106 Resellers took part.
