Griffin’s Network Monitoring Portal (NMP) is a visual and intuitive monitoring tool that allows Partners to measure the efficiency and quality of MPLS VPN services. Both ADSL and Ethernet devices can be monitored. Diagnostics and alerts are provided in real-time.
There are three different products available, Standard, Advanced and Premium.
Standard
The Standard portal provides a ‘temperature gauge’ status overview of services monitored. The service monitors any end points and CPE devices which are ICMP compatible.
The monitoring platform will ping the device every 30 seconds and the collectors will gather this information in 3 minute intervals. A heat tile RAG status relating to the availability of the devices is produced. This option also provides round trip delay and packet loss information from Griffin’s core to the customers’ devices. Partners can view reports in real-time.
This is also available as a wires-only service however Partners must ensure that devices are ICMP enabled and can be accessed using this protocol.
Advanced
The Advanced portal contains Standard portal functionality as well as a more detailed analysis of line throughput and bandwidth usage against the physical limits of the circuit. More detailed reporting is available with this service. Response time variation with indicative line health is also shown. It is particularly useful in seeing how the response time varies dependent on the volume of traffic and congestion.
With the Advanced product the events section shows two aspects of network health as follows:
- Unusual events on this circuit through the week, such as line errors, packet queuing and discarded packets
- The availability level showing the line outages or times when the server could not contact the device
The Advanced level uses SNMP and is only available using pre-configured Griffin CPE.
Premium
In addition to the Standard and Advanced portal functionality the Premium portal displays further details which can be viewed on devices that support Network Based Application Recognition (NBAR) and Real-Time Performance Monitoring (RPM). It shows the application makeup in the traffic and appears as an additional panel.
This service is useful for monitoring how applications are utilising the network link for Class of Service (CoS) planning and additional IP application roll out such as VoIP and delay sensitive business apps. The Premium portal includes MOS, HTTP, TCP/UDP and can report on traffic throughput and latency with a defined class of service.
The Premium level is only available using pre-configured Griffin CPE.
